Spectrum Technology
Summary
Spectrum cancels noise you don't want to hear while preserving the sounds you do want to hear. As the application and headset are used, Spectrum grows and learns from you, improving your customized hearing experiences over time. With headphones and earbuds becoming smarter, people are looking for ways to gain more control over the noise within their surrounding environment.
Design Question
How might we help people cancel noise they don't want to hear while preserving the sounds they do want to hear?
RESEARCH
Competitive Product Analysis
To better understand the current market, as well as reduce any underlying assumptions, it was important to conduct research. The Competitive Product Analysis helped me to understand the following dimensions: Reason for Being, Value-Proposition(s), User Personas, Target Market, Associations, Relationships, and Cost.
Asking questions that focused on understanding the people intended to use this product helped me to identifying user goals and the context of use. Research questions were drafted to conduct contextual inquiry. Data collected during the research stage assisted in supporting further design decision making, removing any underlying assumptions.
User Stories
Creating user stories helped to establish scenarios that people might experience. This allowed me to design in context of the people the product was intended for.
Features List
After conducting the competitive product analysis, developing user stories and scenarios, I was able to clearly identify important features to include in the product.
Cancel Noise
Each headphone device will be able to cancel and isolate sound wirelessly, with low latency
Auto Reduce Noise
Each headphone device will include GPS tracking, auto-reducing sounds in repeated environments
Multi Track
Application will be able to layer multiple sampled environment to target more than one sound
Monitor sleep
Application will be able to help track and monitor sleep patterns providing informative data
Presets
Application will be able to recommended environment presets based on your current location
Wake Me
Application will allow you to uniquely customize your alarm, with options to wake up to your favorite song
